I am officially no longer superstitious. You know why? Last Friday, Friday the Thirteenth mid you, a black cat crossed my path and nothing unlucky happened. In fact, lots of drinking and dancing ensued and my rockstar friend gave me a fly eating plant. No one tell me that’s not how it works and it’s more like my whole life is about to be bad luck filled because I refuse to believe it.
The following evening, Saturday, a customer at the pub told me she reads my blog. This is officially the first time this has happened to me. She’s an Irish expat in Germany and does not even blog, which makes it all the cooler. I was so glad she told me instead of being all awkward like I would probably be in the same situation. So, if you’re reading this, hi Elaine, it was great meeting you!
I met a family that wants an English-speaking babysitter for their three year-old son. They were kind, likeable, all that stuff, but that’s not why I am telling you this. Their son is a child genius and if we were in the US, I am certain he would be blowing people’s minds on all kinds of talk shows. He is three years-old and can read and write in three languages: German, Mandarin, and English. I do not feel unaccomplished at all…
Our washing machine in the flat was broken for three weeks. I cannot tell you what a pain in the ass it was and how the incessant error message beeps were comparable to Chinese water torture, but it was fixed, and six loads of laundry later, I packed for the United States and made a fresh bed for my return to Germany.
My mom told me to call her collect when I landed in the USA (I don’t have an American cell anymore). I literally LOLed and felt like I was bakc in 1995 singing 1-800-C-O-L-L-E-C-T.
Greetings from Dallas! Have a great weekend!
