frivolous friday.

I should reconsider naming Frivolous Friday. At least for today.

On a very non-frivolous note (at least to me), the Freund and I are no longer together due to, to put it in short, issues of timing. This, for me, makes it all extra tough as I’ve never been through a break-up that involved an outside issue instead of an absence of feelings on one end or the other. I’ve debated evening mentioning this on the bloggy, but since it is the sole thing that has been on my mind this week, I somehow cannot leave it out. Not quite ready to pour my heart out, but I’m very sad, yet also OK.

On a more positive note, this split reminded me how many loving, compassionate people I have in my life. Thank you to those, entertaining me, listening, and reaching out in one way or another.

Now, onto more Frivolous Friday appropriate material. no longer directs to my blog, but to a personal website/profile/resume I created. Forever, I’ve had intentions to use the domain for something else and working on it became a great, productive distraction. It’s still not quite where I want it to be, but I’m happy with the progress and domain use.

I love those nights that I go out with only €20 in my wallet so I won’t spend anymore, and then someone who owes me money pays me back so I have more cash and decide it’s OK to spend that, too.

Every Monday night in Karlsruhe (and other cities in Germany I’m sure as these are chain restaurants), Enchilada and Lehner’s host a cocktail casino night, where you roll a die and the # of your roll is the price of your drink. Before rolling, my friend Ankur declared that I deserved a good roll and this will determine whether there’s a God or not. I usually hate declarations like this, but as it wasn’t particularly serious, I went with it, and wouldn’t you know, I rolled a one, and thoroughly enjoyed my  €1 mojito.

A couple FFs ago, I said I would no be watching any new TV series. Well, that lasted a solid 3 weeks and then I caved and began “Game of Thrones”. I am still not entirely into it and feel lost a solid 50% of the time, but it’s keeping me entertained.

Summer is over here. It’s cooled off and the heat ain’t coming back. I am slightly depressed. I packed up my shorts and pulled out the sweaters. It does make for much nicer sleeping conditions in my room though (trying to think positive). Goodbye to the shortest summer ever – thanks a lot Germany.

SPOILER ALERT (re: Pretty Little Liars)!! I just don’t buy that Ezra is A. It makes zero sense. For starters, why would he get himself fired himself from TWO jobs? However, I can see it adding up the other way, too. Like when red coat was at his door two episodes ago, maybe she wasn’t spying, but trying to plan. Maybe he was the older guy Alison was dating that summer, and when he tried to kill her and failed, he is now after her to finish the job. But still, I just don’t believe it is him. Plus, there are too many episodes left in this series for them to reveal it already.

Lastly, I am now offering paid sidebar spots. This blog’s gettin’ real, I’m gettin’ (more) serious, and excitement looms. I had a blast doing the free sidebar spot shot-outs, but onto bigger and better things. First come, first serve.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend… I was going to Switzerland, but now I’m working. Wah.

  • Rika | Cubicle Throwdown

oh blarghhhh. breakups are never fun, sorry to hear doll. hope you have a good group of people there to give you hugs and tequila. also your site looks A-MA-ZING!! love it!

  • Louisa @ My Family & Abruzzo

Sorry about your break-up. :( It’s cooling down here in the uk too.

  • bevchen

Ah, nooo. Sorry about your break up. Never easy.

Also, it sucks that you have to work this weekend instead of going to Switzerland. Someone needs to have words with your boss 😉

According to my colleague, it’s supposed to get warmer again. Not as hot as it has been, but around 27-28°C. Not til about Wednesday though… and for Sunday the forecast says rain is possible. Booo!!

    • ifs ands & butts

Boss skipped off to Greece, thus the problem, but it’s ok, I always like working too :)

  • Ashley of Ashley Abroad

I’m so sorry about your break-up, Alex. I hope you’re doing alright, my thoughts are with you!

  • Steven

Sorry to hear about your split.

I’m glad that it’s cooling off at night now- I’m basically an insomniac in the summer because I keep the windows open to avoid overheating and then I hear everything on the street below my window… I sleep much, MUCH better in the cooler months.

I’m hoping this winter won’t be the Neverending Winter like last year, though. I like the weather right where it is- cool at night, and in the 20s in the daytime. If we could keep it right here, that’d be good.

  • Cat of Sunshine and Siestas

Aw, break-ups abroad are no fun, sorry lady! At the very least, you CAN stare at Ezra without feeling guilty. I have the biiiigggest crush on him and love that he and Aria are together in real life.

  • Melanie Fontaine

Sorry to hear about the breakup! Hope you’re doing fine nonetheless and have a good support network.

  • Niken

break-ups is tougher when there’s unfinished business between the 2 souls involved. i hope you’ll feel better soon. maybe you should just visit me here so we can go mad, hhaa – beside, it’s always summer here. i say it’s a bonus point.

i gave up pretty little liars on its 2nd season. too many schemings. i was tired of it all. but maybe i should catch up

  • Amanda @ Adventure Year

Breakups suck. If you need anything, I’m glad to hear you’ve got an awesome set of people to be there for you! This weekend is my last burst of summer with a trip to Virginia Beach. And then there’s no more denying that Fall is on its way. And I am NOT a happy camper about that. Not that I have anything against Fall. But that b*tch Winter is on her way. 😉

  • Sevi

Breakups are never fun and I am sorry to head about yours.

Game of Thrones is an amazing show. My husband has read all the books and we are both addicted. It’s hard to keep up with characters, but don’t get attached to anybody!!

  • Helene

you’re so profesh with your website!!! and yay for paid sponsor spots! about time :)

  • Katrin

break-ups suck so much! I am so sorry to hear about this, Alex! It is good to hear that you have your friends to entertain you and I hope you won’t be sad too much longer. That sounds pretty complicated and I am sorry you have to go through this.
Game of Thrones confuses me so much. All the time. I can never remember the names and who is related to whom and stuff like that. Still like that show a lot.

    • ifs ands & butts

Thank you, Katrin! Means a lot!

And GoT – I seriously cannot even follow it. I’m mid season 2 and am SO confused.

  • Andi

Oh I’m so sorry for your breakup! They are awful. :(

  • Sara Louise

I’m so sorry about the break up Alex, it’s sucks. It sucks hard. Let your friends be there for you and you’ll be smiling again before you know it :)

Now on to truly important stuff… PLL: for some sick reason, I really, really want Ezra to be A. I’m so tired of his goody-to-shoes act and the fact that in his head, it’s totally ok to date a highschooler. So wrong.

    • ifs ands & butts

thank you thank you friend. And I thought I knew who A was because I read the book spoilers, but now I’m convinced they’re not following the books at all. Hm…

  • bevchen

By the way, Karstadt are currently having a Britsh Isles week thing and they have loads of different flavours of Bulmers. At the bottom of the escalator, opposite the food bit (next to where all the WMF stuff is). Just though you’d like to know.

    • ifs ands & butts

I passed this info onto my Irish friends here and they lost their #$%^& happy lads!

      • bevchen

Haha, glad I could be of service 😉

I need to get back there before the promotopn ends and buy even more Walkers crisps and Cadbury’s chocolate…

  • Rachel

Breakups are the WORST. I always try to look at what is positive about them though, and maybe you can find something positive about this one? If not, drink some beer and watch some bad tv, which is always helpful too.

    • ifs ands & butts

Drinking and TV have seemed to be the path, they’ve been good company keepers 😉 Thank you Rachel!

  • Erica

Aw I’m glad you have people cheering you up even just a little <3
As for summer ending… I'm not too pleased either… grey and miserable outside already! What's winter like?!

    • ifs ands & butts

You don’t want to know – bone chilling…

  • Bailey

The first time I started watching Game of Thrones, I couldn’t follow it. Then, I started it over from the beginning (since i’m desperate for new TV shows) and it’s actually really good! Aaron even loved it! The map in the intro really helps, LOL. I’m sorry to hear about you and the man :( timing just sucks.

  • Anja

Ugh, that sucks. Situations like these definitely ask for 1 € mojitos. But on the upside, summer seems to be back today, right? :-)

  • Mariella (bridgekeeper)

I’m very sorry to hear the break-up thing. I, other than you, have experience with break-ups only when they were due to circumstances. Yes, I have only broken up with people who I still had feelings for. It is the worst. I wish I had the other kind sometime, it must be so much easier. But believe me when I say that you will get through it. *hugs*

  • Kirstie

Oh man, I totally know the timing-not-feelings-caused breakup, and it can definitely be confusing. I just remind myself that the universe will work itself out as it’s meant to.

I desperately need to catch up on Pretty Little Liars, as embarrassing as my addiction to that show is! I’m still on the previous season.

    • ifs ands & butts

Thank you so much Kirstie! As cheesy as it is, I try and remind myself of that too, although it’s more others reminding me right now :)

And girl, I’m impressed that you aren’t caught up on Pretty Little Liars, I literally could NOT stop.
