remember this kid?

Of course, you do. How could you forget such a cutie? Anyways, one of the many perks of staying in Karlsruhe is getting to keep in touch with my au pair family. They are my favorite six-pack and it is always fun to get together and continue watching the kids grow up. Liam has grown SO much since I first moved to Germany. When I arrived, he called me “Anna” then “Annex” and finally “Alex” nearly six months into my stay. Today, he speaks English and possibly speaks it better than my German. He switches between the two languages without even thinking. It’s amazing to see how much that little sponge can absorb. We began training him to respond with “gotta pay the bills” anytime someone asks why.

I have two favorite moments from the night, number 1 being Liam seeing my friend Ben again. When I was au pairing, Ben was Liam’s favorite friend of mine and Liam was always so excited when he came over to play. It had been 7 months since Liam last saw Ben, but he just walked up and reached his arms high for the biggest hug. Seriously the sweetest thing I’ve seen in awhile.

The next moment came when Liam had his dad’s iPhone. We were trying to get him to ask Siri her name, but he kept speaking too fast, whispering, or not annunciating and it just kept failing. Siri would respond, in German, that she could not understand him.

“Wie heißt du?”

“Wie heißt du?”

“Wie heißt du?”

“Wie heißt du?”

(seriously 50 times)

Liam, why don’t you try asking her in English.

“What’s your name?”

[Siri responds in German].

“Siri, kannst du bitte Englisch?”

Translated: Siri, can you please [speak] English.

It was too funny. What a smarty pants he is.

I had to snag a picture with my favorite little man while I was there, which then spurred him walking around the house taking endless photos (seriously, I deleted 67 off of my phone after). Here are the ones that actually turned out (4 out of 67).

Oh, Mr. Liam.
