stamp of approval saturday #5.

Happy New Year everybody! How have the first few days of 2013 treated you? Things have been a little slow around here and I don’t deal well with boredom, but the weekend seems to be getting me back to my old self. These holiday hangovers can be brutal and the jet lag in the mix made it extra tough this year.

Anyways, it’s time for another Stamp of Approval Saturday! I’ve decided to change it up a little by adding a link up to the bottom, so you can link your favorite reads this week to share with everyone that crosses my bloggy! It can be a news story, blog post, photo, video, your own post you’re proud of, whatever! I hope this little series can be a good pick me up or boredom cure for anyone who needs it. Add your favorite links this week with the widget right above the comments section. Can’t wait to read your finds!

Advice: Stick out your tongue while cutting onions to stop from tearing up. Guys, I’m a freak of nature and cutting onions doesn’t get to me like most people, but my roommate told me this awhile ago and I’d been dying to try it out. Finally, I had an onion that I just couldn’t handle and it really did work! The key is to doing it initially though, not after your eyes start burning.

Buzzfeed: Ok, one of my favorite things about the end of the year is the 2012 wrap-up or best-of style lists. Some are obvious, like best movies or albums, but others like 34 Things from 2012 That Make You Feel Old just resonate what’s great about the Internet. PS – I loved the movie Problem Child.

Hostelbookers Blog: This comical post on backpackers returning to reality is pretty funny, particularly the work stuff, and also captures many of my trivial concerns about actually moving home someday.

Hulu: I mentioned it’s been a little slow around here and what do I do when I’m bored? Watch TV series. This time, I went with Suits and I freakin’ loved it. I actually could not stop watching and must admit I finished the entire first two seasons in 5 days? 4 days? Whatever, it was fast. I also sobbed the last two episodes and couldn’t sleep for a night because of it #dramatic. The show is spectacular though and Harvey Specter is mmm mmm good!

Lifehacker: This Confessions of a Hotel Insider offers great tips for traveling, but is also a humorous account of how inconsiderate and entitled some travelers act. I don’t know, but it made me laugh and gave me some great tips, so I’m sharing.

Startpage24 Chrome Extension: If you’re a Google Chrome user, we just released a brand new extension that makes a pretty perfect, customizable start page. I love it and am proud of our guys for adapting our software to Chrome.

My Chrome Theme

Here’s my Startpage24 start page in Chrome. I went with Fireworks for the New Year.

Stripes & Sequins: I really loved Grace’s advice and blogging 2.0 tips, they go beyond the generic things you always here. If being a better blogger is a NY rez of yours, don’t miss it.

Thought Catalog: This is definitely my experience on how to pick the perfect bottle of wine – don’t send me to the store. I will come back with the 1 Liter bottle (larger than standard) that cost me less than 3 Euro, I assure you.

Thought Catalog: Coming back from a couple weeks off of work, it’s been hard to get back in the swing of things and time at the office has been passing more slowly than normal, so these 37 Ideas About Work to Live By, from Easiest to Hardest were a good New Year’s reminder.

  1. I LOVE Buzzfeed, I’m on the site all the time at work. And the link you posted is by far one of my favorites because I remember every single one of those things……and I do feel old. : )

  2. I saw a really cute year in review post on someone’s blog (she had drawn it ALL with her tablet), but now I can’t remember whose it was. I’m a failure. Whatever. It was pretty sweet.

  3. i genuinely love that you do this. And love this list. And love that start page. You always give me about an hour and half of things to do on the computer!

  4. I’m very happy about this post because 1. I’m making beef stroganoff tonight and that calls for onions so I’m going to try the tongue out trick and 2. I’ve never seen Suits but I’m going to watch it today while I’m tackling a buttload of ironing :)
