2013 line up: what i’m looking forward to.
2012 was quite a year and was overall very good to me. In many ways might be hard to top, but it’s certainly possible and I’m optimistic. In fact, things are already looking up.
Here are some things I’m looking forward to in 2013…
Two of my best friends are getting married.
I’ll for sure be at one of them and working (fingers crossed) on planning around the other. (June & September). Are these couples All-American or what?
Stephanie & Brett
Lindsay & Scott
Mom coming to visit for her second Eurotrip. (April)
Last year we visitied Karlsruhe, Munich, Neuschwanstein, Bern, Thun, Interlaken, Baden-Baden, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Heidelberg, and the Weinstraße. This year we will do some more of Germany and looking into adding Italy to the itinerary.
Twyla in Karlsruhe
My best friend and her mom coming to visit. (March)
I’m working on their itinerary right now – might post it for some advice in the near future.
Oktoberfest 2013. (September)
And Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest, Stuttgarter Wasen, and Munich Starkbierzeit.
Oktoberfest 2012
Meeting more fabulous people and more good times with old friends.
Deciding when (if?) I’m moving back to the US.
Originally I said I would be here a year and July will make it two full years. As much as I love avoiding thinking about anything remotely longterm, at some point, I need to make some decisions.
Becoming more flexible – I am determined to stretch more and limber out.
Our team trainer and nutritionist in the 5th grade (yes, we had a trainer and nutritionist for our AAU basketball team, ridic) once told me that I was the most infelixble person she’d ever seen. This probably remains and I think I’m even more stiff these days. Stretching daily is my New Year’s Resolution.
Continuing down the slow road to learning German.
My progress has slowed and I’ve been speaking it less and less since working at the company (we all communicate in English together). I really need to dedicate a bit of time daily to brush up on grammar and expand my vocabulary.
My sister from California, Lauren, returning to Karlsruhe for the summer! (May)
Lauren and I made quite the duo here in Karlsruhe and I miss her dearly. We are opposite in so many ways and I know it’s why we became so close. She knows me so well and I can’t wait to have her back. Skype only suffices for so long.
Scandinavia Trip (July/August)
Lauren and I will embark on a summer adventure and explore what Norway, Sweden, and maybe even some other places, have to offer. I also plan on FINALLY getting to meet Megan!
Continuing to improve my blogging consistency and content.
I will admit that sometimes this blog exhausts me and feels like an obligation. But despite these sporadic feelings, I really love how it represents me, acts as a memory keeper and an information exchange.
What are you looking forward to in 2013?
Post inspired by Kim’s 2013 excitement.

yayyy for a trip to scandinavia!!! im seriously looking forward to it
and you played AAU basketball?? you have to be kidding. i played from age 11 (im so old that when i was 10 we didnt have a team in my area ha) until 17. my team went to nationals every year and basically my weekends as a kid were spent at tournaments somewhere in the US. im cracking up that someone else around these blogging parts know what my life was like LOL
and why i am more than comfortable living in hotels.
pahahahaha stop it! I only played 3 years I think and then started doing club volleyball but that was definitely a wild ride. Who takes 11 year olds to Colorado to play basketball? Our team actually wanted to lose so we could go white water rafting, oh good times! So funny you played too.
Lovely post. 2013 seems like it is going to prove fabulous to/for you!
I am just looking forward to having a good year and being happy! sounds so cliche and basic but it is all I can hope for. Last year of my masters so I am looking forward to finally finishing school and get the ball rolling on this thing called life and adulthood, but that is really it so far.

Well finishing your masters is super exciting! Best wishes wrapping up and and beginning your next adventure!
Wow! Your year sounds full of exciting travels and good times with family and friends^^. Enjoy your days in Deutschland!
Woahh, that’s so exciting. Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate for this year! I’ll be heading to Europe the middle of May- beginning of July and I couldn’t be more excited! xo, Maria
I bet – you’re in for the best adventure!
Where will you be again? Italy?
So many cool things happening for you! =) This is even better than new year’s resolutions, it’s new year’s plans! I really need to go to Scandinavia too. Instead, we are planning a trip to Scotland, also very exciting!
Ooooh would love to be able to see Scotland this year, too. There’s just too many good spots in Europe!
So excited for you and all your fun trips but most excited for your trip to Houston in June!!!
how exciting! and i vote yes for italy! i fell in love with it a few years back and i cant wait to hopefully return one day with josh. and you couldn’t have worded that last thought any better, blogging can definitely get exhausting but its worth it! hope you have a wonderful 2013!
I’ve done Rome, Florence and Venice but I’m really hoping to explore the west coast. We are trying to get somewhere a little warmer than Germany
. I hope you have a wonderful 2013, too, Emily!
you have A LOT planned for this upcoming year. so many fun things planned and visitors to entertain. How about I come? haha
Girl, you’re welcome anytime. I don’t even need advance notice
Just show up!
So many great things planned for 2013!! Cheers.
I love that you are trying to plan trips for your mom/friends mom. My mom is also coming to visit in March/April and I am attempting to plan things for them as well. Little help?! haha
Ha can definitely help! Just tell me what areas y’all are trying to explore and how long and I can make some suggestions!
This sounds like a great year coming up, with lots of friends and family involved! What about a trip to Paris?
You know what, STRONG possibility. I’ve been a couple times but it’s only a 3 hr train ride from here and some of my visitors may be going through there. If so, you’ll be the FIRST to know!
You have such a fun year ahead of you!
Wow, sounds like you have a fun and busy year ahead of you!
You should take your mum to Tübingen – it’s beautiful there!
Ooo thanks for the suggestion – I have heard really great things about it so maybe we can check it out!
Having visitors and planning their itineraries to show them the best of what your new country has to offer is the best!
Cheers to making all of your dreams come true this year
I swear I spend a ridiculous amount of time making itineraries for people but it’s mostly fun so I love it!
Sounds like you have a fun year ahead! Happy new year!
That sounds wonderful! I love that you will go on another eurotrip with your mom. I hope your 2013 will be awesome. It definitely looks like it!
I love all your travel activities for 2013! So many places to see and people to visit will make for a full year, and give you lots of blogging pics
I’m looking forward to more travel too, but mostly in New Zealand, with my second North American visitor, and it’s so hard to come up with the perfect itinerary because there is so much to see here, don’t want to miss a thing. Ah back to planning the perfect 5 days!
Visitors are the BEST – I love showing off where I live, what I’ve learned, and why I love it
Sounds like an exciting 2013! So eventful already!
I hear you on the speaking German bit. I speak it at work and when I’m out in the city, but all my friends here speak to me in English, so practicing my German is pretty limiting!
