two weeks.

Two weeks left in Germany (until next time). Two weeks until I step foot in Texas for the first time since December 26. Two weeks until I get to see family and friends – people that have known me forever. Two weeks until all the Tex-Mex I can eat. This is all too exciting.

Two weeks also means six weeks without Germany. Two weeks left with my amazing host family. Two weeks left with some of the most ridiculous and spontaneous people I have ever met. Two weeks left in the Waldstadt. Six weeks without seeing my little tot. Six weeks without new best friends. Six weeks in the massive sauna we like to call Houston.

All two weeks means right now though is a too long to do list.

  • obtain my new visa
  • open a German bank account (yes, I went a year without one)
  • transfer cell phone contract to new account
  • renew my BahnCard 50
  • sort stuff going home vs. staying here
  • move out and into new room
  • pack for Houston
  • take family photos for my au pair family (gift to the mother)
  • say good-bye to my friends that won’t be here when I move back
  • deregister and reregister with the city for my new address

And all I actually want to do is spend quality time with everyone here before I go home and besides the whole visa ordeal (this is obvi #1 so I can come back), everything else is on the back burner.

  1. ah, coming/going is always bittersweet! but 6 weeks is the perfect amount for a good visit home then you get to come right back to the good german life!

and for the Bahn50, it actually renews automatically – it will either send you a bill or take the money directly from the last account you paid it with. You only contact them when you want to cancel it (then you have to let them know at least 6 weeks before it expires). So you can cross that one off your list :D

    • the problem is they don’t have an account linked ot me since I paid cash – so they’re trying to charge me but have nothing to charge. Now that I actually have a bank account, I can pay it today woohooo!

  2. It’s not as hot here as I was expecting… we’ve only had one heat related death so far! Ha! But really, it’s nice. Once you feel it, smell it, you’ll miss it. By the way, I just ate my first Tex-Mex meal with iced tea. And it was friggin incredible.

    • I hope you’re right… but I’m still nto sure sure because coming from a warmer Spain had to be an easier transition. It was 28 here the other day and I was hot :-/

But seriously, counting down the hours until Tex Mex.

  3. With your big to-do list, I hope you can enjoy your last two weeks before your trip home! I hope your gift to your host family turns out wonderfully!

  4. Phew… Good luck with everything! At least you can leave some stuff here rather than having to pack it all now and pack it in 6 weeks again.
