I mean *Greece. Sorry, we’ve been making this dumb joke for the past couple months we’ve been talking about this trip.
Right before leaving for Hamburg, I booked two round trip flights for what is basically one of my dream trips. I have some time off while the family goes to Austria in a couple months, so I wanted to take full advantage and plan an incredible trip. Unlike my last big adventure, this one will not be solo but with my friend Lauren here and we are S-T-O-K-E-D.
We were dying to see Istanbul but also Greece, but when researching options of Istanbul and a Greek island hopping adventure, the prices and travel times just seemed plain dumb. There is a large Turkish population in Germany and the family I work for has spent lots of time in Turkey and raved about not only the beaches, but the cost of Turkey. So, after further research, we decided to start in Istanbul, hop on Pegasus Air, the Turkish budget airline, and hop over to the incredible beaches of Bodrum and then ferry over to Rhodes to get the touch of a Greek island for a couple of days.
Still so much to plan on places to stay, things to do, people to see, ya know – the usual, but I love this part. Any suggestions people??

Lauren and I love cooking and are possibly most excited about the world famous spice market.

i think i just died of jealousy!!
the good news is i can just copy your life after you go and give us all the deets on the best places to go!!
im excited for yoU!!
ive also heard amazing things about the beaches in turkey! my old roommate is a merchant marine and he said of all the beaches he's been to (a lot) turkey had the most beautiful one!! AHH!!
Dude.
So. JEALOUS!!!!
I can't wait to hear all about it!
In 2008 I did the Greek Islands with a friend of mine and we did a week long Easy Cruise. The leave from both Athens and Bodrum and it's only 250€ for a 7 day cruise visiting 7 different islands. I mean, it was only about 250€ 4 years ago… Anyway, it's not any kind of luxury cruise, but still one of my favorite trips I've ever taken. I don't know how much time or money you have, but thought it might be something for you to check out! Just make sure to visit a beach at all the islands! They're all unbelievably unique and beautiful!
I don't know about this so called "Pegasus Air." Just kidding, I'm sure it's less sketchy than EasyJet. I am SO jealous of this. You are such a little world traveler.
funnnnn!!!
can i join
Let me ask Voula the places to go in Rhodes — I remember we had so much fun there, but she will know the names of where we went. You are going to love this trip!!!
Once again – so envious of all your trips.
I am so jealous of your life it's not even funny.
Not really travel advice, but this Englishmen in Bodrum has a great blog & an even better book: http://perkingthepansies.com/
We took a poor person backpacker trip a few years ago & hit Istanbul & Kusadasi in Turkey, Samos & Syros in Greece. Total randomness & it was amazing. Your trip sounds amazeballs. Enjoy!
is the sexy indian guy going on this trip too?
officially jealous. you totally will have a great adventure
omg, so jealous! I will be going to Turkey asap!
Wow! I am totally jealous!!! These are two places I have not yet been but they are on my bucket list. I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip and seeing lots of photos.
so envious! turkey and greece are both on my lists
can't wait to follow your adventure, have fun!
I have no evidence to go because I have never been but I'm super duper jealous and cannot wait to see photos!
I LOVE istanbul, it is my favorite city in the world. I wrote a story for Matchbook Magazine on Istanbul that you could check out for recommendations, I think you will love the city. I have been dreaming of exploring the country more so I can't wait to hear about your adventures!
OK. What are the odds that you need some girl to travel with you and carry your bags? I think I would be really good at that. Thoughts? I mean, I certainly wouldn't mind as long as I can tag along on your adventures!!
ah best news ever – i mean, if it's half as nice as hte photos though i will for sure be happy
Oh what a great option to look into – thanks! I am seriously so excited! Love me some Germany but it's time to go a distance!
Ya, paying for a flight in Turkish Lira was a bit scary not gonna lie.
pleaseee do – report back ASAP
OF COURSEEEE! Pretty please!

whennnn are you coming back to deutschland?
FOUND IT! Awesome, thanks os much! http://www.thehousehotel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Matchbook-Magazine-13.07.2011.pdf
Come along
But you don't have to carry my bag, I promise!
Yayyyy! I've been to both countries and they both rank among my all time favorites.
As far as istanbul goes, you definitely should go to topkapi palace because it is incredible, BUT it will not be worth it if you don't get there before the crowds. check the opening times the day before and show up right at the beginning, and go to the Harem first because it's the most popular thing to tour. We got the audio guides and they were super informative and we enjoyed ourselves a lot more because of them – but if there are two of you just buy one and share headphones, you'll save money!
also go to the grand bazaar but only bring a set amount of cash to spend because they are incredible, and i mean incredible salesmen. if you're anything like me, you will spend the money you have on pretty trinkets. It IS a great opportunity to get a cashmere scarf for under 10 euros, so go for that
